Positive

We started the year off with a Bang! Kendall started getting a cough on a Friday. That Monday, I tested her for Covid, and it was negative. Then Sunday, the boys went to the pharmacy to get their first dose of the Covid vaccine. That Tuesday night, Kendall told me that she couldn't smell. I thought for sure she was messing with me. But that night, I could not sleep. I kept thinking about all the crap I'd have to deal with if she was positive for Covid. In the morning, before anyone else was up, I had Kendall smell a few things, which she couldn't smell, so I tested her again. Within 3 minutes, I could tell that it was positive. So I called Haley Elementary and told them that Kendall was sick and that we would be keeping all the other kids home to quarantine, even though no one else had any symptoms.
The school nurse called me an hour later, saying that the CDC had changed their guidelines and that kids only had to quarantine for 5 days, after which they could return to school with a mask for 5 more days. So technically, all the kids could go back to school that day. And none of the kids in Kendall's class would have to quarantine; they'd only have to wear a mask to school.
Taylor and Logan didn't want to miss any school, so I sent them back the next day. Taylor always wears a mask to school, anyway, so it wasn't a big deal, but I sent Logan without one, and the nurse called him into her office and gave him one to wear until the end of the week.
Alexis and Kendall didn't want to wear a mask to school, so I kept them home. I felt better about keeping Kendall home a little bit longer anyway. But I probably should have sent Alexis back to school. She missed her 100 days of school celebration, which is a pretty big deal!
