16th Anniversary

Cafe Monarch is a super fancy restaurant in Scottsdale. We went there 4 years ago, then again last year. For our 16th anniversary, we decided to continue the tradition, and it did not disappoint.

Bon-Papa & Bonne-Maman

It had been over 2 years since I'd seen Papa and Maman! The last time they came was when they watched the kids so that William and I could go to Thailand. That was right before Covid hit the United States and the whole world shut down.
Papa and Maman arrived on Saturday evening. On Sunday we decided to take it easy, but Maman insisted on taking Alexis on a walk. I thought she should use the scooter because Alexis isn't steady on her bike, but Maman insisted that it'd be good practice. She wanted to go all the way to the entrance of Layton Lakes, and I let her.
About an hour later, Maman called me. She said Alexis fell off her bike, but that she was okay. She asked if I could come meet them because she couldn't pick up the bike. I left right away, but I wasn't rushing or anything, just walking at a normal pace. When I got there, Maman was sitting on the raised part of the light post. She was staring straight in front of her, staying that she couldn't see and that it was dark. I panicked a little and decided to bring her down to the ground, in case she was about to pass out. At that point I'd just figured that she was dehydrated. I called Papa and told him to come meet us and bring water. He was there within 2-3 minutes, with Kendall. He'd taken the van, sensing that something was wrong. Together, we pulled her up and brought her to the car. She'd regained her sight after I'd put her down onto the ground.
She told us that Alexis had been on her bike, doing a really good job, but being held by the shirt by her. Then Alexis lost her balance and Maman fell. She fell in a weird way because she had tried not to fall on top of Alexis. In doing so, she fell on her wrists, which were both hurting. She couldn't even open up the zipper to her bag. She'd had to ask Alexis to open the bag, pull the phone out, and dial my number. She said it felt like I took forever to get to her, even though it was probably just 4-5 minutes. She'd felt like she was going to pass out from the pain, but she was holding on because she didn't want to freak out Alexis. What would Alexis have done if Maman was out? I don't know... I really don't.
I asked her if she thought she needed to go to Urgent Care, and she thought it'd be best. William had gone to church, so I told him to hurry home because I was taking Maman to Urgent Care, and Papa was coming with us.
Long story short: she broke both of her wrists in that fall. I had Jeremy (Rachelle's husband) read her x-rays and he confirmed. She should have been put into 2 slings, but that would have made her life very miserable. They decided to put the sling on the wrist that was worse off and a brace on the other one.
Even then, she couldn't do basic tasks, like feeding herself, showering on her own, or even wipe herself in the bathroom. I felt so bad! Alexis helped with the feeding, Papa helped with the showering, and she used our bidet to clean herself after using the bathroom.
The rest of the week was uneventful. We took the kids out of school for lunch every day. Logan chose Subway, Taylor Chick-Fil-A, Kendall Whataburger and Dutch Bros, and Alexis Kodo Sushi.
We were sad when they had to leave, but we were relieved to know that Marraine had already planned a trip to visit Papa and Maman 3 weeks later, so she would help around the house.

Daddy-Daughter Dance

The Haley Dadd-Daughter Dance always happens around Valentine's Day, but this year it happened on our 16th anniversary date.
AND I couldn't get Alexis out of dance OR Kendall out of cheer early because of upcoming competitions. We did our best, hurried, and made it to the dance for one hour (instead of 2). Then William took the girls to get ice cream, as did 3-4 other dads. They all had a good time!

In10sity Dance Competition

Last dance competition of the season, and dare I say, ever? Alexis wants to give cheer a try, so we're taking a break from dance. She's young enough that I think she'll transition well. Plus the two sports are related enough that I think she could transition back easily if she ever wanted to go back to dance.
