Seeking advice

Logan and Taylor are almost 6 months... and they are STILL not sleeping through the night... at least not consistently. I give them their last bottle at 7:30 p.m., and they are usually asleep by 8:00 p.m.. Last month, they slept until 4 a.m., but this month they've been waking up around 2 a.m.
I've tried to give them a bottle of formula because I've heard that it fills their tummies more, but that didn't work.
I've also tried to put rice cereal in their bottle, but it took them almost an hout to finish it, and they still woke up at the same time.
I've tried not to pick them up when they cry, but they keep crying, and I end up picking them up because I just don't want to deal with two crying babies in the middle of the night.
I've tried to rock them until they have calmed down and are sleepy enough to go back to sleep, but they usually cry again within 15 min, occasionally an hour.
I've tried to rock them until they are sleeping in my arms, which sometimes takes 30 min, but again they usually cry again within 15 min, occasionally an hour.
I have thought about giving them their last bottle later at night, but that's the only time I get to spend with Billy, and I would much rather getting up a couple of times at night than give up my time with my hubby.
I have also thought about letting them cry it out, but then I would have two crying babies instead of one. And Billy has to get up at 4 a.m. for his surgery rotation, so I can't let them keep him up all night. When they cry, they don't just do it for 5-10 min...
So if you have any suggestions, please feel free to share because I have run out of ideas and experiments. Thanks, guys =)

It's hard to know what will work for other kids. Teairsa went through a couple of months where she was sleeping through the night and then for about another month or two she would wake up in the night again. Some of it was because she was teething and had some growth spurts (at least I think that is it). What we finally ended up doing, was starting her on solids and I'd try and make sure she ate a decent amount at dinner time (although sometimes I don't think that made much of a difference for her). When she'd wake up I'd either nurse her or Mark would give her a bottle and then she'd usually go back to sleep. When I thought it was becoming a habit and wanted her to really sleep through the night again (she was about 9 months) we decided to try letting her cry it out for the 3 days in a row. She would get really worked up though and we could only stand it for an hour (it really was pure torture for us to hear that) before Mark would go in and get her, give her a bottle and then she'd be asleep again. Thankfully by the 3rd day she only cried for about 15 mins and then she put herself to sleep. Every now and then she still wakes up but she only cries for at most 15 mins and then is back asleep. So that's what worked for us, but with having the two babies it might not work very well for you guys. So it could just be teething, a growth spurt, and/or solids. Hopefully, someone can give you advice that will help though

Like Aupreille, I don't know what it's like to have two newborns, but Isaac and Maddie are just shy of 15 months apart, so I can relate to taking care of two small children and having them share a room. My advice would be, if you really do want them to sleep through the night, let them cry until they fall asleep on their own. The first night it could be hours (I recommend a good pair of ear plugs), but gradually they will cry less and less and learn how to sooth themselves back to sleep instead of relying on you or the bottle to feed them--for most kids I think it takes a week to ten days.

Babywise, a book about teaching children to become good sleepers, helped both of my kids a ton---I'm sure it doesn't work for all babies but I highly recommend it. It's got some great advice on babies and sleep that really made sense to me.

Good luck!

i think you are doing great. its hard reading books to try to solve problems cause then you get caught up in what you are not doing...so I say do what works for you and what helps them sleep whether solids, crying it out, nursing them, etc. However, one of my books suggested waking them up at like 11 pm or whatever you are hitting the sack and nurse/feed them so they will sleep those extra hours....I don't know if it works I have never done that but another idea.
