Fall break

A little part of me felt guilty about staying home for Fall Break. We had friends who went to Hawaii, Bora Bora, the Great Wolf Lodge, Disneyland, Florida, Utah, etc. And we stayed here. My kids were THOSE kids who told their teacher and their entire class that they did nothing for Fall Break. Well, that's not entirely true. I actually had a minor surgery done at the beginning of the break, preventing me from doing any physical work, lifting, pulling, and pushing. The kids actually helped me a ton during that time. The timing of the surgery sucked for them, I get that, but it was actually really great for me. I slept in in the mornings, and I took naps with Alexis in the afternoons to make up for my crappy nights. I actually got up one morning and just started bawling because I was so exhausted. Me + no sleep = big mess!
We did do some low key things. Like we went to the playground, and I just watched. And we build Lego sets that had been sitting in the boxes for months. And the kids jumped on the trampoline because the weather was actually getting nice. And we played board games. And we did science experiments. And we painted our nails. And the kids went swimming when William was home.
And Conference weekend fell during Fall Break, so the kids put a 500 pieces puzzle together. And I got my hair done after the first 2 sessions. And the next day, some friends brought yummy orange rolls. And the kids colored a big picture. And they played Conference bingo.
And we went to Bahama Bucks, because we hadn't been there in so long! And we practiced writing, for Alexis. And the kids went to a Spooky Cupcake cooking class with their cousins. And we went to the Halloween store to pick out costumes. And Kendall took over my phone during Alexis' swim lesson. And we made crafts, including a Halloween Fun House, which Taylor got to keep because he put 95% of the work into it. And we had playdates, with cousins and friends. One day, we had 9 kids here at the house. And the boys went golfing, with me and with William a couple of times. And we went to the Farmer's Market, where we ate Belgian waffles and ran into missionaries, which was fun. We also played really long games of Monopoly.
So, I guess we didn't do "nothing" and we didn't do "nowhere". It just wasn't a trip and it wasn't amazing. But at the same time, I don't really want to spoil the kids with extravagant trips for every break, anyway. We have a cool house. And we have an awesome swimming pool. And there are a ton of fun things to do in Phoenix. And we have great friends to hang out with. So... I'll say this: There's no place like Home. <3

September randomness

I love my little sidekick. I love that I get to spend most of my days with her, watching her learn, play, and (sadly) grow.

Shopping at Costco with 4 kids is not for the faint of heart. That's why I usually do it when the kids are at school. Ha!

Flu shots (and smiles) for everyone. No one cried. Really. And Alexis surprised me again this year when she didn't even flinch.

The weather is finally getting nice again, which means scooters and bike rides every day.

Just because... look at that smile!

School project.

I was feeling sick that day (and puking), but Alexis wanted attention...

Playdates with Brinna.

I also tried eyelash extensions. First, I didn't love them, but I figured I just needed to get used to them. Then, I got used to them and they were very practical. And last, they started falling out after less than 2 weeks and I realized that they were 1) too expensive and 2) too high maintenance for me. They were fun to try but not for me and my lifestyle. I'm okay spending 5 minutes on my makeup in the morning in order to save $120 every 2 weeks.
