Last day of 2nd grade for Taylor. This year was rough, to be perfectly honest. Lots of notes from the teacher. Taylor isn't very focused. He gets distracted very easily. He is also not very motivated and just doesn't seem to care about school work. Or grades. Nothing seems to work. Not the rewards. Not the punishments. Nothing.
He's smart, he really is! When he sets his mind on it and stays focused, he can accomplish great things. But his imagination gets in the way. And it's something that few adults comprehend, especially his teachers. He stands out from all the other kids in his class. Teachers see him as troublesome. And it's something that isn't "acceptable" in our society. And unfortunately, it's affecting his grades. I know Taylor will accomplish great things in this world. But it might be a rough road ahead for him, with lots of criticism and detentions, I'm afraid.
Logan had a great year with straight A's. In fact, a particular test he took this year determined that he was "gifted and talented." This led us to a decision to enroll him in the CATS program at a different school for 3rd grade. It will definitely complicate our schedule, but I want him to excel and reach his full potential. And I think these teachers in the CATS program know how to do that. I am so proud of him.
Kendall also got straight A's this year. This picture of her on her performance day makes her look like a teenager! Crazy! It's funny how your relationship with a teacher changes depending on the feedback you receive. I wasn't a huge fan of Ms. Grieb when Taylor was in her class. He thought she was awesome. I thought she was inexperienced. Now that Kendall is in her class, I actually like her. I think she's done a great job, and Kendall loved being in her class. It was really neat that Ms. Grieb was also Kendall's cheer coach. It was a great year for Kendall.
We celebrated the end of the school year with a water day at the park, courtesy of Michelle. The kids loved it and had so.much.fun!!!
