William had a conference in San Diego one week before Fall break, so we decided to take the kids out of school and give them a 3-week break. The night we arrived, I had a massive headache, so William met a friend of his he works with at Banner Medical Center, and they had a bonfire on the beach, with all the kids, except Alexis. I stayed at the hotel with her, and we went to sleep at 8. I'm glad we went to bed early because the next day was long and busy.
Day 1: We stayed at Sea World from opening to closing. But there was so much to do! I think we did almost everything, but we did miss a few rides. The killer whales show was my favorite. But the dolphins were really cool, too. That night we ate the best fish tacos I ever had in this little hole in ground. The kids were nice and tired after such a fun day.
Day 2: We decided to go to Mission Beach, one of our favorite in San Diego. The water was a little chilly at first, but we all got used to it. Logan, Taylor, and Kendall took a surfing lesson for an hour while the rest of us watched them and hung out on the beach. Alexis eventually fell asleep. After the lesson, the kids were a little frustrated, but mostly exhausted from wiping out so much. They seemed pretty happy after we filled their tummies with some food. We then went back to the beach to play in the sand and jump over the waves. Logan stayed in the water the whole time. He fell asleep in about half a second that night. But before going to sleep, we hit up Little Italy in Downtown San Diego. The restaurant we settled on was okay, but not great. The desserts at iDessert, however, were oh-so-delicious! And the fact that you get to design your own dessert on an iPad is very unique. I wish the would open up more locations, like in Phoenix, because I'd bring everyone I know there. Sooo good!
Day 3: The USS Midway Museum was way more fun for the kids than I imagined. I mean, of course it's interesting for the adults, but I was a little nervous that the kids would act up because they'd be bored. It was not the case. They loved climbing into the airplanes and pushing all sorts of buttons. And going from cabin to cabin like it was a maze was super fun, too. We stayed in there for hours... well... until we got hungry for lunch. So we got lunch at the fish market, overseeing the Unconditional Love Statue where the kids took turns talking pictures of William and I and none of them turned out. Haha. Oh, well. We then walked over to the mall where we ate a cupcake at Frost Me, the winner of the tv show Cupcake Wars, and some delicious gelato at Gelato Paradisio. That evening, we drove up to Carlsbad and shopped at the local mall because it was really close to our hotel and because there's not that much to do there (other than Legoland).
Day 4: LEGOLAND! We got there 30 minutes before the park opened, and the lines were already super long (but not Disneyland-long, so it's all relative). The sky was a little gray when we got there, but it warmed up pretty quickly. Once inside, none of the lines were more than a few minutes long. For most rides, we didn't even have to wait at all. I loved that! It was a really fun day. That evening, we drove up to Anaheim and were surprised with Snoopy at the Knott's Berry Farm Hotel. Alexis was a little scared of him at first, but eventually she gave him a high five and pet his head. There were other dressed up characters (scary ones), but they were nice to the kids (phew!).
Day 6: Last day... We went back downtown for breakfast where the kids were entertained by this cool technology at Starbucks. I wish all Starbucks had this.
It was such a fun trip. It was only a week long, but we did so much! This is definitely a trip to remember!
